Modes of Transportation

The Philippines is home to a variety of unique transportation vehicles and though not as modernized as other countries, it has a charm of its own. From the tiny, three-wheeled tricycle to the gigantic bus and onto the ever famous King of the road Jeepney. The jeepney and tricycle was born from the Filipino ingenuity in which we tried to have a transportation of our own and unlike the bus which we adapted from other countries for mass transport.

Ofcourse there are more transportation in the Philippines but, these three are the most commonly used vehicles to travel in and into Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Buses

According to Travelmart.net, Buses are the largest public land transport system in the Philippines, it can accommodate 30-50 passengers. It is a vehicle mostly used to travel to far places such as provinces, most main bus terminals are situated in Manila and other terminals are located in the heart of other provinces and cities.

Buses in Sta Rosa are not used for traveling within Laguna, it is used to get out of Laguna. The Buses in Sta Rosa would most probably be going to either Manila or Los Banos.

Jeepneys

According to Travelmart.net, Jeepneys are  the heart and soul of Filipino transport vehicles, it is the undisputed “king of the road”. You can’t say that you’ve experience the Philippines without ever riding this vehicle.

Jeepneys came originally from the war vehicles used in World War II as means for transporting goods. After the war, it was decided that the jeepneys could still be of use, with a little modification and some color, the modern jeepney was born.

Jeepneys carry about 12 to 20 people, depending on its size. Jeepneys are the usual public utility vehicle used by commoners for transport, it is a swift and efficient way to travel. Jeepneys travel along the National highway, they are open aired and not air conditioned. The minimum fee per head is 8 pesos at the moment and adds 1 peso for each additional kilometer added.

Tricycles

According to Travelmart.net A tricycle is basically a motorcycle with a side-car or passenger cabin attached to its right side. It can hold 4 to 6 passengers, not including the driver. The fee varies with the distance and if you chose special or not. Special is when you chose to ride alone or with a party you are with, you will pay a fixed amount and the minimum is 30 pesos. A non special ride is when you ride a tricycle with others passengers, its like sharing a ride with others and in turn, you also share in paying. The minimum fee for a non special tricycle is 8 pesos.

Tricycles were originally special only, it is designed small and convenient for it to go to places that other transport vehicles don’t go through like inside villages and subdivisions. It has a higher fee than other transport vehicles but it was designed to be fast and efficient for short traveling distances.
